Hopscotch Heroes -- Tania Neskorodova
6-min read. An Insta star who inspires many a woman to set out on the road to empowerment and work-life balance, healthy living and having it all in life, to managing Original Marines, UAE, Tania Neskorodova has worked hard to be where she is today. Wondering how she does it? Read on to find out.
Hopscotch: What is your family background/current situation and how has this influenced your life today?
Tania: I know this is going to sound strange, but I must say that when it comes to life, I am deeply obliged to my difficult childhood.
My parents were very young when I was born – both of them were 18! When I was 2, my sister was born. Understandably, it was very difficult for my parents in every respect. The task to study, to work and be parents all at the same time was not easy at all. That too, when you have only graduated from school! It is unimaginable what they must have gone through. There was never enough money, not even for food. Our parents were trying to solve their adult problems at such a young age, by any means they could. Consequently, they divorced.
I was a very sensitive child and suffered everything that was going on in the family. At some point in my teenage I decided that my life would be different. I dreamed of getting an education, a decent work and to have a family in which everyone loved each other. The dream turned into my target, or more precisely, into the purpose of my life. This is why I say that it is my family background that made me who I am today.
H: Tell us about what you do and what this looks like on a daily basis
Tania: I manage a company which represents the Italian children's brand, Original Marines UAE, raise three children and have my micro blog on Instagram about combining it all while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
On a daily basis, my day begins exactly at 6 AM with lunchboxes, breakfasts and sending the children with their father to school. Then I devote about an hour and a half to myself: shower, coffee, Instagram, and loading the washing machine, of course! Being a very organised and well-planned person, my days are full of ‘to do’s’. I like to start my morning with the notes in my agenda. Planning is very important to me. In our kitchen you can find daily schedules for children too.
The first half of the day, I usually spend at the office; starting with reading and responding to all my e-mails. I am a multi-tasker and so, in between all the e-mails, calls and meetings I coordinate with my home about lunch options and working out the kids’ homework and activities schedule. Three to four times a week I end my day in the gym and am very happy to be able to do so. Sport is an essential part of our family’s life.
I started my Instagram account as a hobby, just trying to answer questions like “How do you manage with everything?” or “What do you do to stay fit? What do you eat?” etc. And every day when I see a result of my work – whether it is my children’s achievements or a step towards my fitness goals – I wish to share it with those who doubt. I like to share my findings and discovery regarding healthy eating and well-being. I strongly believe that we can change the world starting from our own body, our home, our family. And this is what I post about – I simply share my way.
H: How do you keep work and family life balanced? What are your ‘go to’ coping strategies?
Tania: It would not be honest if I tell you that I cope with all this alone. Of course, I have help – my house help, my mom and my husband, of course. When a woman gets help with chores, it is easier for her to work, take care of the family and herself.
Being a true idealist, I just do not leave any choice for myself, no space for excuses and compromises. My favourite saying is: No one is too busy, it is just a matter of priority. I am convinced that to be able to catch up with everything you should have a basic desire for it. As long as you plan your time and give an attention to every aspect of your life, you can achieve work-life balance.
That said, I have a few rules for better family bonding:
Weekends are strictly for the family
I make sure I am the one to prepare kids in the morning for the school and put them to sleep at night
Go out with the spouse (no kids) at least once a week
Travel with children and without (both options are super important)
Make time for the kids; indulge in ‘me-time’ when kids are busy
Do something in the evening together, for example swimming in the pool.
These small things help me not to feel that my work is in any way an obstacle to the peace and happiness of my family.
H: What does women’s empowerment mean to you?
Tania: Naturally, a woman is peace and harmony oriented. When women are empowered and take on leadership roles, they are powerful agents of change in their communities who work hard to enhance health, well-being, peace and overcome hardships. To empower women is to provide her with the tools, encouragement and motivation necessary to perform at the optimum level in all the aspects of her life. In my opinion a woman that takes 100% responsibility for the world she is creating will be a loving and caring mother and wife.
Of course, this process of woman becoming stronger and more confident has many different shades from country to country. It is sad to realize that in some parts of the world women are being denied even elementary rights. Women are literally 50% of the world’s population, and it makes sense to let them participate in this world’s development. Allowing women to enrich their societies, invent new things and create new innovations will benefit not only their countries but the entire world.
H: What keeps you moving forward and what threatens to hold you back?
Tania: What keeps me moving forward is my own faith in my power. A confidence that my life is in my hands, that I can build it or ruin it or give it in someone’s else hands. Long time ago I chose not to give up, I chose to build my life.
To be honest, nothing threatens me to hold back today. Since I had children, three little humans I live for, my confidence has tripled. They give me energy every day and every minute to move forward.
