Where was Hopscotch on IWD?

Anyone else quite astounded at the force of International Women's Day this year?  At our launch two years' ago, International Women's Day wasn't even something hugely on the Hopscotch radar.  Sure, we knew it existed, but activity around it was relatively low in this region and it wasn't something that seemed to affect the female population on the whole.  Last year, the movement picked up a little - we announced our Women's Empowerment Conference with Dubai World Trade Centre, but again very few private or public events were held and we didn't see much happening here in the UAE.

But - WOW.  What a change 2018 has brought.  Following the #andme and myriad news stories and marches around Women's Rights and inequality over the last six months, this year's IWD was simply huge here and globally.  Here's a quick round up of some of the events we hosted, supported and spoke at and let's hope the juggernaut keeps on rolling right through this year and beyond...

First up, our Digital Women: Open Morning invited 30 hand picked women, some of whom had been out of work for some time, to meet with Chalhoub Group at their fabulous D3 offices in Dubai.  The objective was for the attendees to learn, be inspired by and meet with like minded digital professionals both internally and externally, as well as to have a one to one chat with Chalhoub's Talent Teams on the day.  We left with a big buzz after a successful morning and watch this space for more stories from those who attended.

Our contribution to the UN Women's Empowerment Taskforce was also recognised as part of International Women's Day, as the WEPs movement was officially launched and the team participated in a global 'Ring The Bell for Gender Equality' event with Dubai's Stock Exchange in DIFC.

The evening saw our Co-Founder, Helen, speak to men and women at Eversheds Sutherland's #PressforProgress drinks event about her experiences in women's empowerment with Hopscotch at the fabulous Four Seasons, DIFC.  Joined by Joanne Fischlin of Microsoft and hosted by the lovely team from Eversheds, it was well attended by the legal industry here in Dubai and gave everyone an opportunity to learn more about what is and could be done for women's careers here in the UAE.

Last but not least, Friday was the turn of the ultimate Girl Power Lunch back at the Four Seasons' stunning Mina Brasserie.  Kicking off at 1pm, the intimate event took over the terrace and Helen was joined by WIL Economic Forum's Sophie Le Ray, Ellevate President, Rana Nawas, Head of Business Services at Facebook as well as leading names from the worlds of arabic fashion and music to talk about their work for women in this region.

Bringing a bit of Hopscotch passion and purpose to International Women's Day was an absolute pleasure and we hope will have a lasting impact on the women who attended any of the events in the city.  Here's to an ongoing commitment to the cause and let us know what you got up to in the comments below!
